About the event
What better way to spend a Sunday than in the company of friends or loved ones, with live jazz, brunch and fine wines? And this week, we have the brilliant Andy Sturmey Quartet, bringing his distinctive style of piano playing to The Login Lounge!
This is a chance to hear Andy and the band playing an array of contemporary modern Jazz incorporating the music of Joe Sample, Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, Michel Camilo, Dave Grusin and other Greats - he strives to push musical boundaries, not liking to be typecast and has assembled a group of Top Musicians featuring the Dynamic Jonathan Lewis on Saxes, Top London Bassist Robert Rickenberg and Master of Percussion Dave Lambert.
Andy Sturmey - Piano
Andy started playing the piano at the age of 5 and joined NYJO at aged 15. He grew up with a passion for all different styles of music. He had a formal training at The Royal Academy of Music and at Goldsmith's College under Susan Bradshaw and Nelly Ben-Or MBE.
With his desire to push musical boundaries Andy was the first student to perform an entire Jazz piano programme for his final year, as well as a classical one.
Andy has enjoyed a distinguished International career as a pianist and keyboardist, performing and touring worldwide with many leading artists such as Elton John, George Michael, George Benson, Diana Ross, Chuck Berry, Alfie Boe to name but a few!
He has worked extensively in London in most of the top West End Musicals and with some of the great performers eg Michael Crawford (Phantom) Elaine Page (Cats) Michael Ball (Les Miserables) Brook Shields (Chicago) John Barrowman the list is endless...
Andy has appeared on many radio broadcasts for the BBC and played for members of the Royal Family in private and public engagements. He has performed at some of the great Music Venues eg The Royal Albert Hall, Madison Square Garden, Casino de Monte-Carlo, Ronnie Scotts, Vortex, 606, PizzaExpress, 100Club, Baked Potato, Blue Note, etc etc and can now add The Login Lounge to his Bio.
Jonathan Lewis - Saxophonist
Saxophonist Jonathan Lewis has appeared alongside numerous British Jazz Masters including John Taylor, Ian Carr, Bill LeSage, Don Rendell, Stan Sulzmann, Stan Tracey, Iain Ballamy, Jonathan Gee, Laurence Cottle and Ian Thomas. He is also a skilled arranger, with the big bands of the BBC, drummer Pete Cater and saxophonist Jay Craig among ensembles who have performed his charts.
Robert Rickenberg - Bassist
A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Robert has been a prominent figure on the London jazz scene for over 35 years. His early break came at the Cork Jazz Festival, where he was spotted by acclaimed American saxophonist Spike Robinson and invited to join his band Young Lions Old Tigers alongside Derek Nash, Nick Weldon and Pete Cater.
Described by Jazz Review as "a real gem of a player, with a rich dark sound… spot on the beat", Robert has performed with leading British and American artists including New York cabaret stars Jeff Harner and Joely Fisher, opera singer Melinda Hughes and jazz legend Mark Murphy. His recording and performance credits extend beyond jazz to projects featuring Kylie Minogue, Dannii Minogue, Westlife, comedy duo Punt & Dennis, and composer Howard Blake (The Snowman)
A familiar presence at leading London venues, including PizzaExpress Jazz Club Soho, The Ivy Club and Crazy Coqs, Robert also tours nationally with the sextet led by food writer, broadcaster and pianist Jay Rayner.
Dave Lambert - Percussion
After an 8 year stint in the military, as a musician, including a year at the Royal Military School of Music, Dave left behind full time music and world travel for a very different 25 year career. It was then, just over ten years ago, that he returned to playing and has been busy performing locally, in London and on national tours.
His experience has been as diverse as Jazz, Big Band, Music theatre, Popular Music and also Timpani and Percussion in Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Ensemble…and most things in between! Dave is becoming a regular at the Login Lounge, having performed there a number of times with the fabulous Debby Bracknell Quintet.
This event is from £5.
